In Conference USA action at the Don Haskins Center on Saturday, the UTEP Miners fought hard but ultimately fell 62-57 to the Missouri State Bears. It was a closely contested contest from tip-off to the final possession, with both teams battling defensively and jockeying for control throughout the second half.
Missouri State was paced by Kobi Williams, who poured in a team-high 21 points and added five rebounds to anchor the Bears’ offensive attack. Michael Osei-Bonsu also made a strong impact, finishing with 17 points and nine rebounds, providing tough interior play on both ends for Missouri State.
UTEP was led by Elijah Jones, who scored 16 points while pulling down six rebounds and recording two blocks, leading the Miners in multiple statistical categories. Jamal West Jr. also delivered a solid all-around performance with 15 points, eight rebounds, and two steals, giving UTEP energy and physicality. Kaseem Watson added 10 points to round out the Miners’ scoring attack.
The Bears took control in the first half and maintained a slim lead into halftime before both teams traded runs in the second half. UTEP’s defense forced tough shots and limited second-chance points, but Missouri State’s timely scoring and free-throw accuracy down the stretch helped seal the road victory.
Despite the loss, UTEP’s effort reflected a competitive spirit, with balanced scoring and impactful contributions from its core players. The Miners will look to regroup and fine-tune their execution as mid-season Conference USA play continues.
