UTEP Volleyball Turns the Page Toward Growth in the Offseason

With the competitive season in the rearview mirror, UTEP volleyball has shifted its focus to one of the most important phases of the year: the offseason.

February marks a reset for the Miners — a time centered on development, evaluation, and laying the foundation for what the program wants to become. Practices now emphasize refinement over results, with increased attention on fundamentals, positional growth, and building chemistry that will carry into the fall.

One of the biggest priorities this offseason has been physical development. Strength and conditioning sessions are designed to increase explosiveness at the net while maintaining durability through a long season. The goal is clear: arrive next year stronger, faster, and better prepared for the grind of conference play.

Skill work has also taken center stage. Hitters are refining shot selection and timing, setters are working on tempo and location, and defenders are focused on reading attacks earlier and turning first contact into scoring chances. These smaller improvements, made away from the spotlight, often make the biggest difference once matches return.

The offseason also provides room for leadership to grow. Returning players are being challenged to take ownership of the program’s standards, while younger athletes gain confidence in expanded roles. That internal competition has raised the intensity in the gym and created a culture of accountability.

Perhaps most importantly, this period allows the Miners to reconnect with their identity. The staff has emphasized playing with purpose — being disciplined, resilient, and aggressive without losing composure. Those values are being reinforced daily, long before the first serve of the next season.

While fans won’t see the results immediately, February’s work is shaping UTEP volleyball’s future. When the Miners return to the court later this year, the foundation being built now will be the difference between simply competing and consistently contending.
