The wait is almost over.

On Saturday, August 8, UTEP women’s soccer returns to the pitch to begin the 2026 season. The opener also marks the beginning of a new era as the Miners prepare for their first season in the Mountain West Conference.

With new opponents, fresh opportunities, and a chance to make an early statement, UTEP enters the season eager to build momentum from day one.

A New Chapter Begins

After spending the past two decades in Conference USA, the Miners now turn their attention to the Mountain West. The move brings new rivalries, tougher competition, and an opportunity for UTEP to establish itself in one of the nation’s strongest Group of Five conferences.

Every match this season will be an opportunity to prove the Miners belong.

Two Players to Watch

Savanah Finley | Goalkeeper

One of UTEP’s most important returning players, Finley will once again anchor the Miners’ defense.

Last season, she appeared in 15 matches, recording 45 saves, four shutouts, and a 1.42 goals-against average. Her ability to make timely saves and organize the back line will be critical as UTEP begins Mountain West play.

Ashlyn Neireiter | Defender

Few players bring more experience than senior defender Ashlyn Neireiter.

A leader on and off the field, Neireiter started all 17 matches in 2025 and logged 1,522 of a possible 1,530 minutes. She also scored one goal, including a game winner, while helping the Miners record five shutouts. As one of the team’s veteran leaders, she’ll play a key role in guiding UTEP through its first Mountain West campaign.

Key Numbers from 2025

  • 5–10–2 overall record
  • 2–5–2 Conference USA record
  • 5 shutouts
  • 13 goals scored
  • 24 goals allowed
  • 3–3–2 home record

While last season had its challenges, 2026 offers a fresh start with a new conference and new opportunities.

Every season starts with hope, and this one feels especially significant.

A new conference brings new expectations, but it also brings a chance for UTEP to redefine itself. Saturday’s opener is more than just the first match on the schedule—it’s the first step into a new era for Miners soccer.
